If you own stainless steel appliances, you know that stainless steel is definitely not “stainless.” We’re often asked “Why the misnomer?” Here’s the answer. The name applies only to rust stains. Stainless steel will not rust. It can still stain, especially around certain chemicals like those in the drain cleaner that damaged a sink shown in our recent before and after photos.
To keep your stainless steel at its best, never use cleaning products that contain chlorine. Check labels to be certain! The best cleaner is an easy-to-make paste you can create yourself from baking soda and water. Clean, rinse thoroughly, and dry.
Also never use steel wool as it can leave unsightly scratches behind.
If you have a stainless steel sink that’s seen better days, whether it’s scratched from steel wool or some other mishap, KC Restoration can help. We don’t just cover up scratches, we actually remove them! We can also fix blotchy sinks stained from chemicals used to unclog the drain. You don’t have to “just live with it” or replace it.
