These photos show KC Restoration’s work on gorgeous statues that were important to a great Kansas Citian and the founder of American Century Investments, the late Mr. James E. Stowers, Jr. “Visions of Children,” the statues of children at play by Dennis Smith, is located in front of American Century Investment’s offices. American Century wanted to keep them looking beautiful in honor of their founder who brought the artwork to Kansas City, so they contracted KC Restoration to restore the beauty of “Visions of Children.”
Over the years, the bronze had oxidized, faded and turned green as you can see in the first photo. The second shows our technicians stripping the statues down to bare bronze. We then applied a patina to complete the process of restoring the wonderful artwork that you see in the last photo.
It was an honor and pleasure to get to work on such a beautiful and interesting part of Kansas City and the heritage of one of our clients. Alongside the entrepreneurial prowess that built a solid foundation for American Century Investments, Mr. Stowers’s philanthropy and funding the Stowers Institute for Medical Research contributed mightily to the advancement of medical knowledge and the establishment of the biosciences’ industry in Kansas City.
