KC Restoration’s team recently donated our services at a local memorial honoring Kansas City firefighters. The 30 41 Firefighters Memorial near US 71 and 87th St honors the six firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice when responding to a fire in November 1988. Technicians refinished bronze plaques in and around benches and the flagpole at the memorial. We were especially touched by the “Fireman’s Prayer” on one of the plaques:

A FIREMAN’S PRAYER

When I am called to duty, God,

     Wherever flames may rage,

Give me strength to save some life

     Whatever be its age,

Help me embrace a little child

     Before it is too late

Or save an older person from

     The horror of my fate.

Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout

And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and

To give the best in me

To guard my every neighbor and

     Protect his property

And if according to my fate

I am to lose my life,

Please bless with Your protective hand,

     My children and my wife.

Our thanks to all our local firefighters and their families who sacrifice and put their lives on the line to protect the rest of us. We’re glad our refinishing services could lend themselves to this meaningful memorial.
